Biography

Assoc. Prof. PD Johannes Haybaeck, MD PhD AHCM is Professor of Pathology. He is board certified Pathologist, Neuropathologist as well as Molecular Biologist at the Institute of Pathology, Medical University of Graz, Austria. He has been trained at several Universities like the University of Zürich, Innsbruck and Salzburg. His main research interest is the understanding of the molecular mechanisms driving hepatic carcinogenesis.

Biography

Anita K. Mehta, is a DK-MCD research fellow. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, India in 2006. She studied Biotechnology and was awarded as master of Science at Rajasthan University, Jaipur, India in 2008. She started her scientific career at the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, India as a research fellow. Her main research focus is to study genetic modifiers and molecular mechanisms which are involved in steatohepatitis driven hepatocellular carcinogenesis.

Biography

Dipl. Ing. (FH) Rita Seeböck is a PhD student at the Medical Universtity Innsbruck in the Programm of Molecular Oncology. She was trained at the IMC FH Krems and Medical University Vienna (MFPL, Dr. R. Foisner). Her research on the Translation Initiation Factor (eIF)3a is supervised by Prof. Wolfgang Doppler, MD PhD, and her mentor Peter Obrist, MD. The overlap in field of resarch provides the basis for a close and fruitfull supervision by and collaboration with our group. Currently she is on maternity leave.

 

 

Caroline Schweiger

Biography

Caroline Schweiger studied Biology at the Karl-Franzens-University Graz. She did her Diploma thesis at the Institute of Cell Biology, Histology and Embryology, Medical University of Graz. Her research interest is focused on Xenotransplantation. During her college days she did a business management training too and worked as a coordinator at the Department for Transplantation Surgery at the Medical University Graz for couple years. Caroline is responsible for the OncoTrack Project.

 

 

Valentin Taucher

Biography

Valentin Taucher is a medical student at the Medical University of Graz since 2010, currently being in his 5th semester (September 2012). He is working on his diploma thesis which deals with the molecular understanding of the cholangiocellular carcinogenesis.

 

 

Johannes Petzold

Biography

Johannes Petzold is a medical student at the Medical University of Graz since 2008. After an exchange year in Spain (University of Salamanca) he started his diploma thesis in our research group. He focuses on the understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms driving gallbladder carcinogenesis.

 

 

Nicole Golob-Schwarzl

Biography

Nicole Golob-Schwarzl, B.Sc. studied Biomedicine Analytics at the Fachhochschule Joanneum in Graz, focusing on molecular biological science. After her Bachelors degree in 2010, she started the Master´s degree program in biochemistry and molecular biomedicine at the Technical University Graz. She wrote her Master thesis about single molecule tracking of transcription factors in live cell nuclei in the Laboratory of Receptor Biology and Gene Expression at the National Cancer Institute.

 

 

Stefanie Kraßnig

Biography

Stefanie Kraßnig studied biochemistry at the Karl-Franzens University Graz and started in 2011 her PhD in “Neuroscience” at the Medical University Graz. During her PhD she investigated the role of Synucleins in Alzheimer’s disease. She joined our group in 2015 and is now working as Post-Doc on eukaryotic translation in brain tumours and neurodegenerative disorders.

 

 

Maria Smolle

Biography

Maria Smolle is a medical student in her 2nd semester (July 2013), studying since 2012 at the Medical University of Graz.

 

 

Ines Anders

Biography

Ines Anders, B.Sc. studied Biology in Regensburg, Germany. She did her bachelor thesis research at the Institute for Developmental Biology (Prof. Dr. Stephan Schneuwly), focusing on the proto-oncogene dFussel in Drosophila. After her graduation she worked as a scientific assistant for several months until she started the Master´s degree program in biochemistry and molecular biomedicine at the University of Graz. In October 2013 she joined the group to accomplish her master’s degree.

 

 

Stefan Leber

Biography

Stefan Leber is a medical student at the Medical University of Graz since 2010. He has just finished his 7th semester (February 2014). He is currently working on his diploma thesis which deals with the molecular understanding of diseases of the central nervous system.

 

 

Marlene Leoni

Biography

Marlene Leoni is a resident in pathology since 2013. She studied medicine at the Medical University of Graz and did her diploma thesis focusing on microvesicles in astrocytomas and their role in tumor progression at the Institute of Pathology. Her main interest is the tumor progression of cerebral tumors,  and correlations between psychiatric disorders, their medical treatment and their toxicity in liver tissue.

 

 

Stefan Uranitsch

Biography

Stefan Uranitsch studied Medicine at the Medical University Graz and Lund University, Sweden.  He did his clinical trainings at the Karolinska University Stockholm and at the Department for General Surgery at the Hospital of Kathmandu (KMH), Nepal. He received hid MD degree in 2009 and started the clinical rotation in 2009. Since 2011 he is a resident at the Department of General Surgery at the St. John of God Hospital Graz. He leads the clinical study cooperation with the Insitute of Pathology of the Medical University Graz at the St.John of God Hospital Graz. Since May 2014 he is member of our research group focusing on colorectal cancer.

 

 

Carina Koller

Biography

Carina Koller, B.Sc. studied Biomedical Science at the FH Joanneum in Graz. After her Bachelor Degree in 2010 she started the Master´s degree program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine at the Technical University of Graz. Beside she worked as Biomedical Analyst at the laboratory of Immunology and at the Institut for Medical Laboratory Diagnosis in Graz. She recently started to work on her master thesis focusing on eukaryotic initiation factors in colorectal cancer.

 

 

Michael Seiberl

Biography

Michael Seiberl is a medical student at the Medical University of Graz since 2012, currently being in his 6th semester (March 2015). He is working on his diploma thesis which deals with the SUMOylation in neurodegeneration.

 

 

Laura Ann Seif

Biography

Laura Ann Seif is currently studying medicine in her 6th semester at the Medical University of Graz. Within the framework of her diploma thesis she is validating miRNA patterns in meningiomas with the help of PCR.

 

 

Julia Unterluggauer

Biography

Julia Unterluggauer BSc. MSc. (PhD student) achieved her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Graz. Within her Master studies she focused on Molecular Microbiology and during her Master thesis she was engaged in ribosome biogenesis research. In 2015 she achieved her Master’s degree from the University of Graz and is currently a PhD-student in our laboratory.

 

 

Nadine Gantenbein

Biography

Nadine Gantenbein  BSc. MSc. (PhD student) achieved her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Graz in 2014. Within her Master studies she focused on nuclear import of ribosomal proteins. Since 2015 Nadine is a PhD student in our laboratory.

 

 

Christina Wodlej

Biography

Christina Wodlej , BSc. MSc achieved her bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Technology of Graz in 2013. Afterwards, she performed her master studies in the field of Molecular Microbiology. Her master thesis was about the interaction of two antitumor peptides with membrane lipids, whereas the main focus was on cholesterol and phosphatidylserine. In 2016, she finished her study at the University of Technology of Graz and started in our laboratory as research assistant.

 

 

Florian Kleinegger

Biography

Florian Kleinegger, BSc MSc achieved his bachelor´s degree in Chemistry at the Technical University of Graz. Within his master studies in Biochemistry and molecular Biomedicine he focused on a cancer stem cell associated transcription factor and its impact on neuroendocrine tumor cells. In 2015 he achieved his master´s degree from the Technical University of Graz and joined our research group as PhD student. His main research focus is to study undelaying mechanisms of cholangiocarcinogenesis.

 

 

Sabine M. Lukofnak

Biography

Sabine M. Lukofnak is a graduate nurse for mental health services. She worked as a Study Nurse at the Department of Oncology, Internal Medicine, Medical University Graz for more than 8 years. During this time she did a clinical research associates training, a clinical study coordinator training and her a-level-examination. Then she worked as a clinical project coordinator and go into business for oneself as a clinical study coordinator for a couple of years. She took her second qualification in the field of business and office management. 2015 she did her certificate of academy health care course, Wings-Wismar International Graduation Services GmbH.

 

 

Philip Puchas

Biography

Philip Puchas studies both human medicine and molecular biology at the Medical University of Graz and the Karl-Franzens-University Graz, respectively. After starting as a medical student in 2013, he developed considerable interest in molecular medicine as well as in tumour biology, consecutively adding molecular biology to his studies in 2015. As part of his diploma thesis he joined our research group in august 2017, focusing on eukaryotic translation initiation factors (eIFs) and their involvement in the carcinogenesis of pancreatic cancer.
